There is no "rationing" in the European healthcare system. [This seems to be a myth shared by Americans There are limited resources - but all resources are finite - even in the US. If you have an accident in the US - you still wait for the surgeon to become available.
I don't understand you point about the "Ponzi" scheme. A Ponzi scheme depends upon new arrivals bailing out the existing members. But in the UK everybody pays taxes - there are no new members.

Well that's a fine theory, but contradicts the facts. Healthcare in Europe costs about half the price or less than it does in the US. I pay about 10$ a month in tax to be covered - and everybody gets covered - no one gets left behind.

Back when the industry was basically a free market, supply was high and price was low. The new york times even reported - and complained about - the fact that lodge practices were offering health care for one year for 1 dollar back in 1910.

It makes people dependent on government for their healthcare, and at the same time drives a wedge between supply and demand which raises prices. The government eventually can no longer confiscate enough income to fund it, and gives up. You can see this in European healthcare, or American municipalities that have had to cut various services in the recent downturn. It's not sustainable.

Yes, this happens often when other people are paying. Demand is over-stimulated relative to supply, which then needs to be rationed.
